Police arrest man, 20 for raping 86 year old

Police in Chongwe have arrested and charged a 20 year old man of Mwanshelela village of Chief Bundabunda in Chongwe for allegedly raping a woman, aged 86, of the same area.


Zambia police spokesperson, Rae Hamoonga who confirmed the development identified the suspect as Edward Mumba aged 20 years of Mwanshelela village of Chief Bundabunda in Chongwe.
He stated that the incident happened around 03:30 hours on October 25th. He said that the matter was reported by Agness Chiteu, 44 years of Ntanisha village in Chief Nkomeshya’s chiefdom in Chongwe. He said that she reported that her mother Violet Tembo, 86 was raped by the named suspect at the victim’s residence.
Mr. Hamoonga stated that the suspect broke into the victim’s house where she was sleeping alone. He said that the suspect is reported to have committed the alleged crime therein. He said that the victim sustained general body pains and was rushed to Chongwe District Hospital.
Meanwhile, in an interview, the named victim’s daughter disclosed that the incident happened around 03:00 hours in the morning on Monday.
She said that she rushed to the mother’s house and found the accused committing the act.
She described the incident as barbaric, but was happy that the suspect was apprehended after escaping on the material day.
