THE ruling Patriotic Front (PF) has called on all well-meaning Zambians particularly in Southern Province to join the fight against cholera which has hit Lusaka and other parts of the country.

Provincial Chairperson Lawrence Evans called on all party structures to get on board to fight the spread of the disease which had also hit one town in the province, Siavonga.

“It is for the reason that I call on all our party structures across all districts in Southern Province to take the lead in mobilising people in public places and homes to carry out preventative activities,” Mr. Evans said.

This is contained in a statement released to the Daily Nation in Southern Province by provincial information and publicity secretary (IPS) Terrymore Mweenda.

Mr Evans said it was paramount for every individual to take responsibility and work towards preventing the spread of the disease.

“We appreciate the nature of the disease and acknowledge many Zambians travel from one corner of the country to another for various reasons on a daily basis, it is therefore paramount that everyone takes responsibility and works at stemming further spread of cholera,” he said.

The party leadership in the province has further thanked President Lungu for directing the involvement of the security wings in the cleaning exercise which it says has borne positive results.

“This intervention by the head of state once again goes to show his concern for ordinary citizens in densely populated compounds of our country,” he said.

“It is time for every Zambian to play their part and contribute to stopping the disease which has so far claimed more than 50 lives.

He appealed to opposition political parties to join hands in fighting cholera and not use the outbreak for politicking.
