PROVE ACC OFFICERS ARE CORRUPT, MUNIR ZULU CHALLENGED

By KETRA KALUNGA

PROVIDE compelling evidence that would merit the disbandment of the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) and audit of lifestyles of officers you claim are corrupt, opposition political parties have challenged Lumezi, Independent Member of Parliament Munir Zulu.

Mr. Zulu who is yet to appear before ACC after being summoned, has urged the government to audit the officers at the commission because their lifestyles are not commensurate with their earnings.

He has challenged Government to ensure the officers have clean hands as they investigate other people.

Mr Zulu also intimated that he had information about officers which would shock people.

But Citizens Democratic Party leader, Robert Mwanza said it would be prudent for Mr. Zulu as a lawmaker to provide evidence and point out who the corrupt officials at ACC are instead of saying all officers are corrupt simply because they drive expensive vehicles.

And Zambia Republic Party leader Wright Musoma said it’s unfortunate that an MP is the one labeling public workers corrupt based on their lifestyles without proof because such a trend has the potential to destroy the country.

Mr. Mwanza said in an interview that it’s sad the allegations are coming from an MP who is supposed to be in the forefront to end the trend of labelling anyone who is doing well as a thief.

He said the culture of pulling down anyone living a better life should end before the country is robbed of development because most people would stop investing in the country for fear of being labelled as corrupt.

“And I think for as long as we take that path as a country then we are not going to develop because what  that entails is that if I have money whether it’s genuine money or otherwise, I will not be able to invest that money just for fear of being labelled a thief,” he said.

And Mr. Musoma advised Mr. Zulu to provide evidence to back his allegations, failure to which he should keep quiet and concentrate on delivering development to people in his constituency.

He reminded the Lumezi lawmaker people have learnt to be enterprising despite being in employment, therefore they deserve a lavish life for their hard work.

Mr.Musoma said Zambians should not take the country back to the UNIP era where anyone who owned a good house and drove an expensive vehicle was perceived to be corrupt.
