UPND Lundazi losing candidate quits politics

LUNDAZI Central UPND Parliamentary losing candidate Frackson Banda has quit politics, it has been learnt.

Mr Banda confirmed the development in a statement to the Daily Nation yesterday in which he said he wished to concentrate on his personal life

He said said he would inform the people of Lundazi which way he may go when time came and urged his supporters not to be hurt as that was the nature of politics. “Today I have decided to withdraw my membership from UPND so that I can concentrate on my personal life for now. I will inform the people of Lundazi which way I may go when time comes. Do not be hurt these are politics”, he said.

Mr Banda thanked the people of Lundazi Constituency especially those that voted for him during the 2016 general elections.

“I would like to thank the people of Lundazi Constituency especially those that voted for me during the 2016 general elections. Thank you so much people for your support and continue supporting me”, Mr Banda said.

Mr Banda said had decided to withdraw his membership from UPND and quit active politics on May 6. “In the last 2016 election I supported the opposition United Party for National Development and stood in Lundazi Central Constituency as a candidate for member of parliament but on Saturday, May 6, 2017 after some consultations, I decided to withdraw my membership from UPND”, he disclosed.

Mr Banda was recalled from his tour of diplomatic duty in India two years ago, in 2015.

In the 2016 General election, Mr Banda stood on the UPND ticket in Lundazi Central against three independent candidates Lawrence Nyirenda, Ambassador Col. Bizwayo Nkunika and Evans Ngoma.

The election was won by independent candidate Lawrence Nyirenda who polled 12,688,followed by Ambassador Nkunika who polled 6,209.

Another independent Evans Ngoma polled 5,831 while at the botton was Mr Banda  with s3,354 votes.
