Copperbelt permanent secretary Bright Nundwe has warned that he wanted to see sanity in all the districts and a clean environment prevailing.

“We don’t want the province to be known for illegalities but instead create predominance for positive results towards development in all districts as it is the most sophisticated in the country,” the new permanent secretary said.

Mr. Nundwe said the report he received for the Copperbelt was not pleasing and that without condemning the previous PS, “but I want us to clean up. I want to see excellent accountability of finances in every department.”

Speaking to the Daily Nation in Ndola, the PS said lessons should be learnt from previous governments in order to leave good legacies.

“Ndola itself as I look at it is extremely filthy, very dirty because as I was driving around, I could see dirty black water flowing round the tunnels.

“It is very embarrassing for the President to direct the armed forces to start cleaning up the streets of Ndola or the entire Copperbelt.

“If you have been given the opportunity to serve the Zambian people do it exceptionally well and leave a positive mark,” he said.

Mr. Nundwe said the Copperbelt had black mountain, the jerabos, the Congolese borders, cadres around and it took a person with a component of maturity to deal with such issues which required, not a PHD but a component of wisdom.

He advised the civil servants to apply wisdom when attending to the public and not resort to chasing anyone as they had the obligation to attend to every single person.

Mr Nundwe questioned the local authorities on the land they were giving out and where the city’s investment would be established if they kept giving out chunks of land.

He therefore urged the local authorities to do the right thing in their respective offices by also demonstrating respect to even the junior most persons for the benefit of that department.

Mr Nundwe also urged District Commissioners to be consistent in visiting chiefs in their respective areas as they were the ones that housed all the people that voted for the PF government.
