The ministry of defense will institute investigations to flush out personnel reportedly being used by an ambitious and power hungry media personnel spearheading the Socialist Party.

In an interview yesterday, Defense Permanent Secretary, Stardy Mwale said the ministry was concerned about reports suggesting that some defense and security forces had been recruited by the Socialist Party to advance its agenda.

“They know that they risked being fired. However, if there is such political party which is trying to recruit people from defence, we are not aware even my own minister is not aware of such maneuvers but should it be there, we have a department which will investigate and if they are found wanting and we get the list of those people definitely they know the end results.

I don’t think their commander would tolerate that. If there are people doing that they should know that once they are caught, they will face  exit,” he said.

Mr Mwale explained that security and defense officers in Zambia must always remain loyal to the President and government.

“What we do is that we expect these officers to be above board and to be loyal to the government of the day and indeed to protect the constitution of the Republic of Zambia and of cause the commander in chief of armed forces.

But if they are working against that then they are not doing what is required of them,” said Mr Mwale.
