Zambian athlete qualifies for the London World Championship

JORDAN Chipangama, a Zambian athlete based in the USA, has qualified to the London World Championships after competing in the Daegu Marathon in South Korea.

Zambia Amateur Athletics Association (ZAAA) general secretary Davison Mung’ambata confirmed this in an interview with Daily Nation sports in Ndola.

Mung’ambata said that his Association was proud of the athlete for qualifying for the world championship which will have about 200 thousand athletes competing from all over the world.

“Chipangama has qualified for the London word championship. This means that we now have two athletes so far that have qualified for the World Championships.

“We are proud of our athletes and we pray that some more will qualify during the tournament that will be held at National Heroes stadium on April 8, 2017,” Mung’ambata said.

He noted that ZAAA remained commitment to ensuring that more Zambian athletes qualify to the 2017 World Championships to be held in London.

“We are very much committed to ensuring that more Zambian athletes qualify to the world championships in London and that is why we have been holding deferent championships with the intent to qualify more athletes.

“On April 8, we will hold another championship at National Heroes Stadium so that we can give other athletes the opportunity to qualify for the world championships,” he added.

Mung’ambata urged local coaches and their athletes to work hard for them to meet the qualifying time set by the International Amateur Athletics Association for them to qualify for the world championship.

Chipangama, a former Zambia Police athlete clocked 2:15.15 hours against the IAAF qualifying standard time of 2:19.00 hours.

He joins Zambia’s Gold medalist athlete, Kabange Mupopo who qualified to the world championships after clocking 51.60 seconds in 400 meters women against the qualifying time of 52.10 seconds.
