GOVERNMENT has paid out K23, 414,550 in funeral scheme benefits and K1, 443,291 as living allowances to government employees and their families under the recently introduced Employee Funeral Assistance Scheme in 2016.

Public Service Management Division Representative Chibesa Ndawa said since the introduction of the scheme on 1st January, 2016, Government received a total 2,184 claims from employees last year which it paid out.

Mr. Ndawa further revealed that so far only 40% of government workers had registered to be covered by the scheme despite it being compulsory.

He urged all government workers to fill in all necessary documents to ensure that they were registered and covered by the scheme and failure to do would affect the payment of benefits.

Mr. Ndawa said this during a review meeting of the scheme organised by the Public Service Management Division at the district council chambers in Kabompo yesterday.

Meanwhile, civil servants in Kabompo district have appreciated the introduction of the Employee Funeral Assistance Scheme by government in a bid to provide effective funeral assistance to government workers.

Acting Kabompo District Education Board Secretary Fredrick Fulayi said the scheme has made it possible for employees and their families to have dignified funeral because of the funeral scheme.
