Edgar mourns  Mkondo Lungu

FORMER deputy Speaker of the National Assembly Mukondo Lungu has died and President Edgar Lungu says has learnt with deep sadness the passing away of former Lundazi Central member of Parliament during the reign of the MMD

President Lungu said Mr Lungu’s distinguished service and significant contribution to the Republic of Zambia as a Civil Servant, Parliamentarian and consequently as Deputy Speaker in the 2011 to 2016 National Assembly session was a remarkable track record that would be greatly missed by the people of Zambia. President Lungu said in a letter of condolences to the bereaved family that the former Deputy Speaker’s loyalty and patriotism to Zambia, coupled with his humble character made it easy for him to work with
others and deliver accordingly.

Deputy Ambassador to the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) and son to Mr Lungu, Muhabi Lungu
announced the passing of his father.

“My father has passed away. I received a call from home some thirty minutes ago”.And MMD national secretary Raphael Nakacinda described the demise of Mr Lungu as a national loss.

Mr Nakacinda said that Mr Lungu’s death was devastating to the MMD as a party because he had an exemplary career as a diplomat and politician.

He said that Mr Lungu was a person people would run to for wisdom on governance issues because of local and international experience.

Meanwhile, United Party for National Development (UPND) president Hakainde Hichilema said in a statement that the late Mkondo Lungu was also a seasoned career civil servant who served the nation with diligence in many ways. “We have learnt with shock and sadness the passing on of Hon. Mkondo Lungu, Deputy Speaker of National Assembly as well former MP for Lundazi Constituency in Eastern Province. He served the nation with diligence” Mr Hichilema said.

“On behalf of our Party, the UPND and indeed on my own behalf we wish the family strength during this trying moment. Let us all look upto God the create as Him alone can wipe out tears” he said.
