MUTINTA Buumba Mazoka M’membe yesterday pleaded not guilty to one count of contempt court, contrary to section 116 (i) of the Penal Code CAP 87 of the Laws of Zambia.

This was the second time Mutinta was taking plea within four days after denying the charge of obstruction of police officers on duty contrary to section 250 (d) of the Penal Code before Magistrate Phaides Hamaundu last Friday.

Mutinta denied the contempt of court charge before Magistrate Irene Wishimanga who summoned her to answer to the complaint of contempt of court filed by Constable Japheth Mulenga of Police Headquarters.

This was in a matter where it was alleged that on February 15, Mutinta acted with intentional disrespect to the law enforcement officers and the court order by tearing the search warrant, which was duly authorized in the name of the President.

In his complaint before the court, Constable Mulenga said that Mutinta committed contempt of court contrary to section 116 (i) of the Penal Code CAP 87 of the Laws of Zambia.

He said the incident happened at 17:40 hours at Mutinta’s residence and that she had no lawful justification for her acts.
