Tonse woman relives abduction, torture

…Felistus Mwanza, the woman who was abducted by UPND cadres in Mandevu narrates how she was violently abducted, kept captive for five hours while being beaten and tortured, threatened with death, wonders why police have not moved to arrest the known assailants By NATION REPORTER THE woman who was last week allegedly abducted by suspected UPND cadres in Mandevu while campaigning for Daniel Chisenga has given graphic details of the death threats and torture she suffered for over five hours at the hands of her captors. And the Tonse Pamodzi Alliance has demanded for an explanation from the Zambia Police for deliberately neglecting to arrest the UPND cadres who violently assaulted Davis Mwila at the High Court almost two weeks ago. Emmanuel Mwamba, the Tonse Pamodzi Alliance spokesperson has accused the Zambia Police of protecting the UPND cadres who assaulted Mr Mwila by letting them scot-free after committing violent acts against opposition members. Felistus Mwanza, 39, and a mother of one said in an interview yesterday that apart from stealing the K800 she had, the over 30 UPND thugs pulled her hair, showered her with virulent insults. Ms Mwanza, who is still nursing injuries she suffered from the beatings has further revealed that she was kicked out of Kulima Tower where she trading, for allegedly supporting Brian Mundubile in the August 13, general election and has since lost income. “I am just from the hospital to receive the treatment I was put on after the beatings and torture and I am in severe pain,” Mrs Mwanza said. She wondered what peace President Hakainde Hichilema has been preaching when ordinary people at the grassroots were being victimised on a daily basis that they were expressing political opinions different from that of the ruling party. “I was pepper sprayed and up to now my eyes are in pain and I can’t see properly. My head is hurting after my hair was pulled out. Is this the peace President Hakainde Hichilema has been preaching about? I was savagely beaten and my womanhood insulted in a manner I have never heard of before,” Ms Mwanza said amid sobs. She revealed that the ruling party bandits who attacked her issued death threats on her if she did not convert her political philosophy and endorse that of the UPND. “They said ‘imwe bafi**la, we will kill you. Who told you to start holding tuma meetings here? You must from now on join the UPND and start supporting President Hichilema” Ms Mwanza continued narrating amid sobs. Ms Mwanza said she is now living in fear especially that there has not yet been police action over the incidence, fearing that the thugs who abducted her could easily find her and harm her severely.
