THE completion of Matero’s Chunga market will ensure traders conduct their businesses in an ideal and conducive environment, says Patriotic Front Mwembeshi 27 councillor Kelvin Kaunda.

Mr Kaunda said it was unfortunate that Chunga market was under construction for about 20 years and that there was need to quickly complete the project so that traders could start conducting business in an ideal and conducive environment.

He said the first phase of the construction has seen the putting up of concrete base were the merchandise would be placed had been completed.

In an interview over the weekend, Mr Kaunda said the construction of the first phase of Chunga market was facilitated through the ward development fund but that the money was not sufficient to complete the trading facility.

Mr Kaunda said he was soliciting for funds through Matero Member of Parliament Lloyd Kaziya to consider utilising part of the Constituency Development Fund (CDF) to be used towards the second phase of the market.

‘‘The first phase of the construction of Chunga market has been finalised and it was made possible through the ward development fund.

‘‘I have lobbied Matero MP Lloyd Kaziya to consider that part of the CDF goes towards the second phase as the completion of the trading facility will ensure traders conduct their businesses in an ideal and serene environment,’’ he said.

He said through collaboration and partnerships, he had solicited that the community benefit from the second phase of the Lusaka 400 kilometre road network.

Mr Kaunda said most roads in Mwembeshi ward were in a deplorable and impassable state but expressed happiness that AVIC International was taking part of the remains from the Great North Road project to fill up some of the roads in the community.

He said the Asian community in collaboration with the Lusaka City Council had pledged 30 kilometres of road network which would benefit Mwembeshi ward.
