THE Scottish government is keen to work with Zambia and help enhance its trade, that country’s minister for international development and Europe Alasdair Allan has said.

Mr. Allan said Zambia was committed to economic trade and Scottish government would therefore help the country boost her trade.

He observed that other than enhancing bilateral trade relations with Zambia, the Scottish government was keen to support government’s efforts to develop the economy such as enhancing agriculture in rural areas.

He explained that the Scottish government was working with non-governmental organisations in supporting Zambia’s agriculture sector.

“We need to assist in developing agriculture in Zambia because some of these projects are connect with the sector. We work with a number of NGOs interested in developing agriculture in rural Zambia and maybe things we can do is to learn from each other and ensure there are improvements in those areas. Zambia is a country committed to economic,” he said.

Mr. Allan said recently during his visit to Zambia that Scotland was also committed to developing and enhancing fair trade between the two countries.

He further said his country had also provide support for the health sector where US$6 million had been funded for different activities in the industry for the next two years.

“We are committed to enhance fair trade and ensure a sustainable economy and allow people to save for their future. Trade has been the central feature for this visit.

“There is connection with government, we want to revamp the connections between the two countries and enhance this to ensure bilateral relations are strong,” Mr. Allan said.
