PRESIDENT Edgar Lungu has commended the Zambia national soccer team for qualifying to the quarter-finals of the ongoing Championship of African Nations CHAN tournament in Morocco.

Speaking in an interview at the Keneth Kaunda International Airport in Lusaka, President Lungu said that team work made it possible for the Wedson Nyirenda-led Chipolopolo to reach the knockout stage.

The President urged the team to continue working together as they meet Sudan in the first quarter-final fixture to be played in Marrakech.

He also cautioned fans not to discourage the team in its quest to deliver the CHAN title.

“The side played as a team and that is why they are where they are. This shows that if you work together as a team you get the glory,

“If we are going to single out individual players and say that this one is better than this one, we will not go far. So let’s learn something from the boys, resilience and determination can take you far,” President Lungu said.

Zambia progressed to the knockout stage after topping group B with seven points, on par with second-placed Namibia who will meet host nation Morocco in the other quarter-final fixture scheduled for next Saturday.

Both Zambia and Namibia progressed to the quarter-final stage after beating Uganda and Ivory Coast in their first two group B fixtures.
