Three cobs of maize lands guard in court

A Security guard, aged 65 of Kafue has been dragged to court for stealing three cobs of maize seeds worth K1, 500 property of Asha Farm.

Appearing at the Lusaka Magistrate Court before magistrate George Njobvu was Rodgers Mwiinga of Chikupi area in Kafue accused of theft by servant contrary to Section 272 and 278 of the Penal Code Chapter 87 of the Laws of Zambia.

When the matter came up for plea, Mwiinga admitted stealing three maize cobs.

It is alleged that each maize cob costs K500 as they are not ordinary cobs but used as seeds for the farm.

Further allegations are that Mwiinga on April 18, 2023, in Lusaka whilst being employed as a security guard by Asha Farm stole three cobs of maize seeds altogether valued at K1, 500 the property of the said employers.

The court adjourned the matter to May 15 for reading of facts and sentencing.

Meanwhile, a 37-year-old businessman of Lusaka’s Ngombe compound has found himself in hot soup after he stole goods worth more than K29, 000.

John Tembo is charged with breaking into a building and committing a felony therein contrary to Section 303 (a) of the Penal Code Chapter 87 of the Laws of Zambia.

It is alleged that Tembo on unknown date but between April 13, 2023 and April 14, 2023, in Lusaka broke into a building namely William Lwando’s shop with intent to steal therein stole three fridges, a sewing machine, K 2, 000 cash, 10 kilogrammes of mincemeat, five kilogrammes of beef, 30 pieces of sausages, 15 kilogrammes of fish and 27 kilogrammes of pork altogether valued at K29, 945.00.
