By NATION REPORTERS

ABOUT 212 bags of Genetically Modified Maize (GMO) mealie meal worth K68, 000 have been stolen from the Zambia National Service (ZNS) Eagle Milling warehouse at Kasumbalesa Border Post in Chililabombwe.

The defence wing through its Eagle Milling Company is importing GMO maize from South Africa destined for export to the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC).

This has raised security fears from the public, saying that the mealie meal would find itself on the Zambian market.

ZNS Chief of Public Relations and Marketing Colonel Mable Mulenga said thieves broke into its warehouse at Kasumbalesa Border, which was housing its imported mealie meal destined for export to Congo and made away with about 212 by 25 kg bags of mealie meal worth K68,  000.

Col Mulenga said the incident was a slap in the face of ZNS’s noble efforts of supplementing government effort of generating additional resources to complement those coming from the treasury.CLICK HERE TO READ MORE
