MEN should not perceive women as threats, but must be ready to embrace them as partners in development so that they can move together to address the various challenges in the country, Kalulushi Mayor Rashida Mulenga has said
Ms Mulenga said men should embrace women as partners in development especially that President Edgar Lungu had appointed women to influential positions in Government.
She was speaking in Chilubi in support of the PF candidate Rosemary Chimbini in the by election to elect the new council chairperson flowing the death of the council chairperson Daniel Mwila.
Ms Mulenga, who is also Kalulushi constituency PF chairlady, said the people in Chilubi should elect Ms Chimbini as council chairperson in the by-election set for October 22 because women had the ability to provide quality leadership with passion.
“I am here in Chilubi to drum up support for my fellow woman who has been adopted on the PF ticket. I am supporting my fellow woman because women have what it takes to contribute to development in various communities and sectors of the economy
“The men should not be intimidated by women in various key positions, but must embrace us, as partners in development. President Edgar Lungu has shown a good example by appointing women in various positions. This shows he has recognised the importance of women in various areas of development,” she said.
Mr Mulenga urged PF members and leaders at grass root levels to remain united and loyal to the party and President Lungu.
She said party leaders should explain to the people the challenges the country was facing and what the Government was doing to address the situation.
“Minor misunderstandings should not create divisions within ourselves, but we should always find ways of dialoguing and reconciling. Let us put aside personal differences and focus on defending the party and President Lungu.
“We should prepare ourselves to set the guns blazing ahead of the 2021 by explaining what the Patriotic Front Government has done in terms of infrastructure development and others, “she said.
