RESIDENTS of Lusaka’s Kalingalinga compound have appealed to the Zambia police to intensify patrols in the area to combat a gang of youths that are mugging them.

Solomon Lange, a resident, said the youths who are between the ages of 14 and 18 were beating and stealing from them.

He explained that the gang of youths commonly referred to as the ‘‘Fluffy’’ were making their social life miserable, adding that even going to the nearest bar was a challenge as they feared to be attacked.

Speaking in an interview with the Daily Nation, he said the police should intensify patrols and arrest all those loitering at awkward hours.

“We are appealing to the Zambia Police to come to the aid of the people of Kalingalinga; this gang of youths has made our lives unbearable, we are no longer free to move or be active.

The gang has been terrorizing residents of Lusaka’s Kalingalinga and Mtendere residential areas, killing and robbing people they meet after 21 hours.

The group is believed to be composed of young people from the two residential areas.

Mr. Lange challenged the police to arrest the boys before they developed into armed robbers that would be a security problem to the area and the country.

“The Fluffies are a threat to the security of this country if they will be left to have their way. People are not living in peace just because of these young boys who, if the police do not apprehend them, will be a source of security problem,“ he said.

And Mabel Maunda said attending funerals had become a challenge, adding that the boys targeted funeral houses where they waited for people to walk away from the funeral house to attack them and get away with their money and property.
