UPND’s Armageddon now showing-Kamba

THE Armageddon promised by the UPND before the elections has continued showing its ugly face and if Civil Society Organisations (CSOs) and the church continue to turn a blind eye to this spate of arson and violent activities, this country is headed for serious problems, Kennedy Kamba has warned.

Commenting on the burning of public buildings across the country, Mr. Kamba said UPND’s promises of anarchy before the elections was now bearing fruit and that the scourge would continue if the party was to be treated with kid gloves because its aim was to make the country ungovernable so that Zambians could rise against Government.

He said it was sad that the UPND had failed to put the interest of the country before their own by continually treading on a divisive and destructive path in its quest to consolidate its claim that the 2016 election was stolen.

Mr. Kamba said when the PF was telling electorates that UPND was a violent party during the campaigns, some people did not take it seriously but that the current scenario had exposed who the culprits of election violence that characterised the country in the runners up to the polls were.

He said all people who had been arrested in connection with the current spate of burning of public buildings were all from UPND and that this was evidence enough to show that the party leadership had nothing to do with preserving peace in this country.

“When we warned people that UPND was violent, some people thought we were exaggerating things. UPND went to the extent of threatening violence if they lost an election and again, most people downplayed such sentiments but we have been vindicated because what they promised the country is exactly what they are doing.

“The burning of public facilities such as courts, district administration blocks, markets, and schools just goes to show how desperate the leadership in the UPND is to usurp power but that is not the right thing to do.

“Election period is over and it is now time for us to work. The opposition can contribute a great deal to the development of this country if they provided credible checks and balances to those in power,” Mr. Kamba said.

He challenged the CSOs and the church to condemn the violence and anarchy being proposed by the UPND as peace and security in the country was at stake.

“This is not time to sympathise with the UPND and treating them with kid gloves. This is the time the church and CSOs must speak with one voice and condemn the barbaric activities instigated by the UPND. All the people who have been arrested across the country for violence and burning of public property are UPND members.

“We only have one country and when public property is being vandalised, we all suffer. These buildings they are burning were not built by the PF and do not belong to the party. These are national assets which we all use,” he said.
