Construction of Kasama Airport to complete mid 2017

CONSTRUCTION of the Kasama Airport at a total cost of K144 million is expected to be completed in July 2017, Northern Province minister Brian Mundubile has disclosed.

Mr Mundubile explained that once the airport is complete, it would boost tourism in the province which is endowed with various tourist attractions.

He was speaking in an interview recently when he, together with other ministers, carried an on-the-spot check on construction works.

Other ministers who inspected the works were Minister of Finance Felix Mutati, Minister of Infrastructure and Housing Ronald Chitotela and Minister of Transport and Communication Brian Mushimba.

“Large aircrafts will land on this airport and will ease the traffic at the Kasaba bay airport, which is also under construction,” he said.

Mr Mundubile said the airport being constructed by Ng’andu Consultancy would also boost investments in agriculture and other activities around commerce, trade and industry.

He said the construction of the airport was among the many developments undertaken by the Government in the area particularly that Kasama would soon be turned into a City.

Speaking in a separate interview, Ng’andu Consultancy resident engineer Witika Chileshe said earth works were currently underway.

“We are on course and we will hand over the airport in July next year,” he said.
