Opposition Alliance intact – Kakoma

By PETER SICHALI

THE Opposition Alliance is intact and there was no scheduled meeting on Wednesday to formalise the alliance and electoral pact, says UPND spokesperson Charles Kakoma.

On Wednesday, sources revealed to the Daily Nation that the meeting that was intended to formalise the alliance and electoral pact was scuttled due distrust between UPND president Hakainde Hichilema and his National Democratic Party (NDC) counterpart, Chishimba Kambwili.

The source said the UPND, NDC and ADD meeting was scheduled for Wednesday but failed to take off and was postponed to a later date.

But in an interview yesterday, Mr Kakoma said there was no scheduled meeting on Wednesday for the alliance.

Mr Kakoma also said reported cracks of the alliance were imaginary and creation of those who do not want it to succeed,

He said the alliance has not received any communication from any alliance partner that intend to withdraw.

He said rumours of the collapse were fake and should be treated with the contempt they deserved.

“We are not aware of any cracks. Those are imaginary because no alliance partner has informed us of the intentions to leave the alliance.

“In fact, there was no scheduled meeting on Wednesday for the alliance,” Mr Kakoma said.

Recently, there were rumours that Mr Kambwili was re-joining the ruling party, reports which he has dismissed.
