DEC being used to fight ECL – Antonio

By NATION REPORTER

DRUG Enforcement Commission (DEC) Director General, Mary Chirwa,  is being used to fight political battles and to fix former head of state Edgar Lungu, PF Media Director Antonio Mwanza, has said.

Mr Mwanza said that Ms Chirwa  was just hell bent on fixing Mr Lungu and the Patriotic Front (PF) by playing to the gallery on a number of issues.

Mr Mwanza said the summoning of former First Lady Esther Lungu to appear before DEC today was an embarrassment because she could not fail to build 15 flats because her husband was the head of state.

“There is politics at play here and it’s because Ms Chirwa is being used to fight political battles for the UPND because the matters she had been summoned for were petty and lacked merit,” he said.

He said none of the victims that were being investigated by the DEC had been convicted, an indication that there was no integrity in the way they conducted their dealings.

Mr Mwanza said even the claim that the First Lady would be followed to her residence was fake because DEC had made it clear that she had to report at their offices.

He said DEC was playing to the gallery by portraying an impression that they accorded the former First Lady respect when they had made it clear that she had to report at their offices.

“What I can say is that DEC is playing to the gallery because what the director-general said is not what she told us and they are just trying to hoodwink the public and create an impression that they respect the former First Lady,” he said.

Mr Mwanza said DEC needed to stop sensationalising matters and start  being open and not the pretense being portrayed by the Director General.
