PRESIDENT Hakainde Hichilema and his ministers of Justice and Home Affairs have devised sustained attacks on the DPP aimed at frustrating her to achieve certain political objectives, PF Chilubi member of Parliament Mulenga Fube charged.
He said the sponsors of the attacks on the DPP have realised that they cannot remove her from her position because the tenure of her office is protected by the constitution.
Mr Fube, who rose on a point of order in Parliament yesterday, wondered why the President and his government had remained mute on the attacks on the Director for Public Prosecutions (DPP), Lillian Siyuni, for carrying out her duty.
He said it’s sad that people in government are attacking the DPP for entering nolle prosequi when the same people, while in the opposition benefitted from the same provision.
Mr Fube said it’s sad that the person who has executed her duties diligently and professionally, is being attacked by those in government for the purpose of calculated political expediency.
He said there is a sustained campaign on social media by the current government against some constitutional office holders.
Mr Fube reminded the Head of State and his ministers that they are sworn to protect the constitution which entails that they need to protect constitutional offices like the DPP.
He said the attacks on the DPP are not good for the country because the DPP is a constitutional office which must be respected and protected by those in government.
Mr Fube explained that article 180 of subsection 3 of the constitution of Zambia empowers the DPP to stop criminal proceedings in court at any stage before the judgment is passed.
He also said the constitution empowers the DPP to enter nolle prosequi without giving reason.
Mr Fube advised the UPND government to stop making decisions based on what is discussed on social media, adding that itis the reason why many people have been fired based on what is posted about them.
“So far 21 boards have been dissolved because of social media and the fear by the Zambian people is that constitutional offices are going to be affected by social media because decisions are made on social media,” he said.
Mr Fube also said everyone agrees that if it wasn’t for social media, people like Kingsley Chanda would still be running ZRA but that he was fired because the current government appoints and disappoints based on what is discussed on social media.
He also said President Hichilema has become a spokesperson of the ACC and is trespassing on other arms of government like the Judiciary.
