THE launch of the Smart Environment Ambassadors campaign will promote sustainable waste management systems and safeguard the environment, says Patriotic Front Mandevu constituency Justin Kabwe councillor Teddy Mwaba.

Mr. Mwaba said there was need to promote compliance levels as regards waste management, hence every household, institution and business entities needed to develop a policy aimed at cleaning places voluntarily.

He said this over the weekend in his ward during the launch of the Smart Environment Ambassadors (SEA), a group formed to spearhead better methods of waste control and management systems in collaboration with the Lusaka City Council whose theme was “Our clean environment, our good health”.

He said to improve proper waste management systems, waste bins would be given to all Government institutions, and churches along the road from Mandevu junction to Kasangula Road.

“As Justin Kabwe ward we are happy that we have finally launched the Smart Environment Ambassadors campaign as it will ensure our efforts of a cleaner and health surroundings,” he said.

He said in order to increase waste collection fees there was need to provide timely information and invest in the community awareness campaign.

The civic leader said if the environment was well cared for it would help reduce pressure on health institutions to manage outbreaks such as cholera and other waterborne diseases.

He expressed hope that the initiative would help reduce the indiscriminate disposal of waste.

Mr. Mwaba thanked the community and other stakeholders such as the police, United Church of Zambia and Government departments, especially Mandevu clinic, for their support in launching the program.

He appealed to Zambeef to consider partnering with the community in such progressive activities in the ward.
