…as NAPSA and Munali Suns drop points during first Basketball league games played on Sunday

THE Midlands Basketball League defending champions, Matero Magic began their tittle defense on a positive note after walloping Intrepid Bulls 89-44 in the first league game played on Sunday at National Sports Development Center (NASDEC) in Lusaka.

Magic dominated play and led with more than 15 points in the first quarter.

The merciless thumping of Munali sent Magic to the summit of the Midlands Basketball League table with 2 points, on par with second placed Green Buffaloes and UNZA Pacers who also won their week one fixtures.

Green Buffaloes defeated NAPSA Hurricanes 64-48 while 2016 Midlands Basketball League runners up UNZA Pacers thrashed Heroes Play United 79-67 to collect maximum two points.

In another fixture, City Council sponsored LCC Looters walloped Munali Suns 73-66.

In the feminine league, 2016 Champions UNZA Honeys, Buffaloes and Magic Breeze impressed as the three teams emerged victorious in their first fixtures.

Last year’s league runners up Magic Sparks thrashed Nishati Shells 74-31 and command the feminine league table with two points.

Meanwhile Green Buffaloes defeated NAPSA Breeze 72-56 while LCC Looters collected a point for their 58-37 loss to UNZA Honeys.

With Sparks on the summit of the feminine league table, UNZA Honeys lay second with two points as well and a goal difference of 21 goals while first place Sparks have a better goal difference of 44 goals.

Green Buffaloes lay in third with two points while Hotspurs lay bottom on the log with no points as they are yet to kick off their campaign in the 2017 Midlands Basketball league.
