THE countrywide tour of projects by President Edgar Lungu is an indication that the Head of State is determined to see to it that development goes to all the parts of the country, says Youth Aid chairperson Kachenga Chungu.

Mr Chungu said that President Lungu was vigilant to ensure that citizens were not being denied development by ensuring that facilitators were on the ground working to the expectations of the Zambian people. In an interview yesterday, the non-governmental leader said that it was important for the Head of State to work with people on the ground and visit various developmental sites taking place around the country.  Mr Chungu said that it was a well-known fact that some unscrupulous contactors were in the habit of carrying out shoddy works or not doing any works at all but would still get payment, saying that it was unfortunate that some Zambian contractors were culprits and stated that only Zambian companies with the capacity should be given jobs.

“President Lungu should continue to be vigilant and watchful to ensure that Zambians are not denied development. He should therefore, continue working with people on the ground and visit sites where developmental projects are being carried out,” Mr Chungu said.

He also expressed hope that the handing in of quarterly reports by all ministries on progress as well as developmental activities made would help guide President Lungu on what needed to be done.  The submission of progress reports by respective ministries is in line with the Presidential directive that ministries and provincial administrations be presenting these reports on national development to set action points and enable monitoring mechanisms for effective service delivery.
