Give me 10 years – HH asks Zambians

By NATION REPORTER

PRESIDENT Hakainde Hichilema has asked Zambians to grace him with another five years in 2026 after his impressive first five year term in which he says he would have made Zambia an economically prosperous country where citizens would have choices of what to eat from the plenty.

And President Hichilema has continued chiding his predecessor, former President Edgar Lungu that he should stop fantasising about his return to the presidency because the position of President in Zambia is already occupied.

President Hichilema said Zambians should consider allowing him to govern the country for 10 years because his vision was to make sure the country should become a paradise where no Zambian, irrespective of their social and economic status.

Addressing a rally in Kabana yesterday during the launch of the drilling of boreholes, President Hichilema boasted that in only two years, the UPND had made exponential progress in ensuring the lives of the people had improved.

The head of State admitted that he was aware that mealie meal had become expensive but that the solution was to ensure famers were attracted to growing more maize by offering them attractive prices for their produce so that the cost of mealie meal could be stabilized.

“Give us time to work. We shall start politicking in 2026. This time is for working, not playing politics. In just two years, you have seen what we have done. In the next three years. Give us 10 years and you will see what we are going to do. After 10 years, you will start choosing what to eat. You eat Nshima on Monday, rice on Tuesday and potatoes on Wednesday because Zambia will have become a land of plenty, President Hichilema said.

And President Hichilema has continued teasing former President Lungu that there was no way he would return and take up the leadership of the country because the presidency was already occupied.

The head of State said Zambians should be angry with the previous government for destroying the country and not with the UPND government that was repairing the damage it had inherited.

“I know your problems…I know the price of mealie meal is high but the solution is to increase the price of maize so that farmers can grow more. If the farmers are happy, they will grow more maize and the price of mealie meal will be stabilised. Farmers stopped growing maize because of low prices and if the farmer does not grow maize, there will be no mealie meal but we shall stabilise the cost of mealie meal when we grow more maize.”

We found a lot of problems…this country was destroyed by those who left. Those are the people you should be fighting not those who are solving the problems. Manje ati alebwelelapo, azankala pati (now he says he wants to come back, where he is going to sit?),” President Hichilema said.
