…as Changala fears Catholic Church has been contained by the UPND

BREBNAR Changala says it is shocking that the Catholic Church and its Zambia Conference of Catholic Bishops (ZCCB) have elected to remain loudly silent in the face of chilling undemocratic tendencies that has seen the rule of law completed fractured, thereby threatening the peace and unity of the country.

According to Mr Changala, the civil rights and political activist, the Catholic Church has failed to speak out of an array of governance issues including:

1. The unbridled power by the police to arrest and detain opposition leaders indefinitely

2. The victimization of Thandiwe Mhende, the former Registrar of Societies by the UPND for refusing to make illegal changes to the PF list of office bearers

3. The looting of the treasury via consent judgements   that has seen many UPND cadres and officials pocket millions of kwacha via compensations

4. The Miles Sampa debacle where the Executive has worked to compromise the Legislature and the Judiciary in a bid to annihilate the PF and create a one party State.

5. The incarceration for two months of Rizwani Patel a PF officials on tramped up charges of aggravated robbery in a case of assault.

Mr Changala said although he was a Catholic, he is deeply concerned that the Church had failed to issue pointed Pastoral Letters to criticize the UPND government that had made all institutions of governance gone rogue.CLICK HERE TO READ MORE
