COURT ORDERS FORFEITURE OF KAPOKO’S PROPERTY

THE Lusaka Magistrates’ Court has ordered that former Ministry of Health Human Resource Officer Henry Kapoko’s property be forfeited to the state and the money amounting to K703, 101, 000 be recovered.

This is in a matter in which Mr Kapoko has been convicted and sentenced to two years imprisonment with hard labour for abuse of office, theft by Public Servant and money laundering.

When the matter came up for judgement on Wednesday, the state filled in an application to the court that Mr Kapoko’s house in Roma, house number 25 Manda Hill road, aluminum worth K31,982.00, and a conference table be forfeited to the state.

“The state has an application to make, that is to invite this court to exercise its jurisdiction in pursuant to section 41 of the Anti-Corruption Act, that Mr Kapoko’s property be forfeited to the state,” said one of the state prosecutors.

And magistrate Aridah Chulu granted the state’s application and ordered that Mr Kapoko’s property and money in counts one and two be forfeited to the state. “Upon hearing the application by the state, that the order on house number 25 Manda Hill road, conference table plus aluminum worth K31, 982.00 be forfeited to the state,” she said.

Magistrate Chulu further ordered that the monies amounting to K703, 101, 000  laundered in count one and two be recovered and forfeited to the state.
