WE must at all cost honour late second republican President Frederick Chiluba, says civil society for constitution agenda (CISCA) Chairperson Bishop John Mambo.

Bishop Mambo said President Chiluba’s status should be restored and his seized properties handed back to his family.

He said it was sad for a man who had sacrificed so much for his country to be remembered negatively even after he had been cleared by the courts of all charges.

Bishop Mambo told the Daily Nation that the church should not sit back and allow the injustice, as president Chiluba played a critical role towards the declaration of Zambia as a Christian nation.

He said the declaration was important as it brought stability to Zambia and the country operated under Christian values.

“People should not underestimate the importance of the declaration of Zambia as a Christian nation, even today when we are misdirected in our deeds like what is currently happening where politicians are at logger heads we still come back and realise that we cannot turn against God in our deeds,” Bishop Mambo said.

He said president Chiluba had been neglected by people who had been close to him.

Bishop Mambo said President Chiluba built churches and hospitals using his presidential fund initiative, therefore it was only appropriate for the church to play a leading role in ensuring that his legacy was remembered positively by future generations.

He said those calling for the restoration of President Chiluba’s honor should be strongly supported.

“Those of us who were close to him ran away from him but should we continue to do him injustice even after his death.

“Let his properties be returned to the family, this is a man who was found innocent.

“I know sometimes people misunderstand me, but I was in the Mungomba Commission and I know how committed Chiluba was when Zambians voted for a Christian nation and I feel I have every right to champion for this cause,” Bishop Mambo said.
