POLICE WARN KALIMANSHI’S CRONIES

By SIMON MUNTEMBA

THOSE who are planning to stage an illegal demonstration against the detention of Innocent Kalimanshi will be met with full wrath of the law, police spokesperson Esther Katongo has warned.

Ms Katongo said the police are ready to deal with Mr Kalimanshi’s associates who were planning to stage an illegal demonstration.

Ms Katongo remarks follow threats by Kalimanshi’s associates that they would stage a protest if he was not released within 24 hours.

Ama Americans’ second in command, Nathan Phiri warned that if “the self- proclaimed PF commander,” was not released within 24 hours, he would mobilise his supporters to protest his prolonged detention even without a police permit.

“I think enough is enough, if Innocent Kalimanshi will not be released today, I will urge all our youths to stage a demonstration with or without Police permit.

Mr Phiri said he was disappointed with PF senior members for not condemning injustice against Mr Kalimanshi.

“Don’t think that America is dead, I am there,” he said.

Mr Kalimanshi has been in custody since the fracas that happened last Saturday when he forced his way into the PF Secretariat during Mr Chishimba Kambwili’s official return to the party.

Asked whether Mr Kalimanshi’s case was not bondable and when he is likely to be taken to court, Ms Katongo, who was reluctant to comment further, referred all queries to Lusaka Commissioner of Police Lackson Sakala.

Efforts to get a comment from Mr Sakala proved futile at press time.
