MINISTER of Sports, Youth and Child Development Moses Mawere has commended FAZ and MTN for their commitment towards the development of soccer in Zambia.

Speaking in a speech read by acting Ministry of Sports Permanent secretary, Joyce Nsamba, Mawere noted that Zambian football would not develop without the support from the corporate world.

He was speaking during the 2017 MTN/FAZ super league awards

The minister appealed to other corporate entities to emulate MTN and work with Government to develop sports in the country.

He thanked Chipolopolo patron President Edgar Lungu for having allowed the successful hosting of the Under-20 AfCON which was won by the Junior Chipolopolo.

Mawere noted that Government was committed to playing a big role in the growth of football in the country.

Meanwhile, MTN Northern Province region manager John Muyawala reaffirmed his organisation’s commitment in contributing to the development of soccer in Zambia.

Speaking during the 2017 MTN/FAZ super league awards Muyawala said that MTN was proud to collaborate with FAZ towards the growth of football in Zambia.

Meanwhile, FAZ vice president Rix Mweemba has commended Government and MTN for their tireless efforts in developing soccer in Zambia.

Mweemba noted that football in Zambia had developed, a situation which had resulted in the country being given the opportunity to host crucial sports events such as the Under-20 AfCON and the COSAFA Under-20 youth championship.

Mweemba added that the accomplishments achieved by the Under-20 soccer team who won the Under-20 AfCON and reached the quarter-final of the 2017 Under-20 South Korea World Cup has made Zambia the centre of focus.

Mweemba added that investment in the local league by the corporate world has attracted players from foreign countries who have made the league to be competitive

“The super league witnessed steady growth of investment. Lusaka Dynamos, Buildcon, Lumwana Radiants and others clubs received financial uplift which has led to the arrival of international players.

The outstanding performance of Zesco United and Zanaco have also made it possible for Zambian football to develop. “We would like to thank Government and MTN for their tireless efforts to grow soccer in Zambia,” Mweemba said.
