FORMER AG KALALUKA ARRESTED

By NATION REPORTER

FORMER Attorney General Likando Kalaluka has been arrested.

Mr Kalaluka was arrested by the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) yesterday on one count of consipiring to defraud government in the manner Honeybee Pharmacy was awarded the contract to supply health kits, contrary to section 313 of the Penal Code.

Mr Kalaluka has been arrested for allegedly allowing the procurement of health kits by Honeybee after the sole supplier at the time , Mission Pharma stopped supplying and delivering the medical supplies.

Honeybee had accepted to supply the government even without receiving upfront payment. And were awarded the contract.

In April this year, Honeybee Pharmacy Limited sued government in the Lusaka High Court, demanding payment of almost US$4 million for the supply of health kits, saying that failure to receive this money will incapacitate the company.

In its claim, Honeybee stated that in November 2019, it entered into agreement with the Ministry of Health for the supply and delivery of 22.500 health care kits at a total contract sum of $17,958,150.00.

The pharmacy stated that out of this, it only supplied 5,000 kits at a total cost of $3,990,700.00 and that the ministry received the same without raising any issues regarding the quality of the products.

In July, Honebee Pharmacy Limited has discontinued the matter in which it sued Government demanding payment of $17, 958, 150 for the alleged “defective’ medical kits supplied in 2020 to pursue an out of court settlement.
