Pro-government chiefs bewitched – headman

SOUTHERN Province traditional leaders working with the government are falling sick frequently because they have been bewitched by a well known chief, a headman has claimed.

The headman in Siavonga has alleged that a traditional leader opposed to the Patriotic Front was allegedly responsible for the ailments afflicting other chiefs.

He said most of the chiefs who have fallen victim to witchcraft are those in the Gwembe valley who are against and not supporting a political party led by a tribal cabal that wants to whisk power from the PF government using any means. 

“We have a chief who is not only summoning his colleagues in the region at night to threaten them but also actually he has been bewitching those he feels are not supporting his party of choice.

The headman disclosed that the two chiefs from Siavonga have not been spared by the traditional leader because of their decision to support the government of the day.

“If you remember very well, not long time ago, most chiefs in Southern Province suspended traditional ceremonies for political reasons but those in the valley went ahead and this did not please the chief in question.

“From that time our chiefs here have been complaining of body pains but when they go to the hospital, they are told there was nothing wrong with them,”

He called on the House of Chiefs’ chaplain, Chief Chipepo to pray for traditional leaders that are victims of witchcraft so that they can be freed from the evil one.

And in an interview with the Daily Nation in Siavonga, Chief Sinadabwe confirmed that for some time now he has not been feeling too well but however stated that people in the area should not associate his sickness to witchcraft saying his illness had nothing to do with witchcraft.

“Yes, I have heard that some people are boasting that they spend nights at graveyards but for me, nobody can manage to bewitch me because I’m strong and moreover I don’t believe in cheap witchcraft.”  “Those who sleep at the graveyard want to become witches and witch finders and that has nothing to do with my life and if at all they sleep at the graveyard to bewitch me, they are just wasting their time.”

Meanwhile, Chief Sinadabwe has called on Government to start preparing for the looming hunger situation in his chiefdom. He said the area is experiencing a drought and that his subjects will not be able to harvest anything because their plants have since withered due to the prolonged dry spell.
