CHIEF MUMENA EULOGISES KK

CHIEF Mumena of Kalumbila district in North-western province has paid tribute to late first Republican President, Kenneth Kaunda, for maintaining the institution of chieftainship even after independence.

The traditional leader said other countries had scraped off chieftainship but Dr Kaunda maintained it because he valued tradition as it gave people a sense of origin.

Chief Mumena said North-Western province would forever remember Dr Kaunda for the time he spent with them in Kabompo in 1959 when he was restricted to a house by the colonial masters in what is today called the Kabompo house.

The traditional leader said this in an interview with ZANIS in Solwezi yesterday.

Chief Mumena reminded politicians to champion peace and love just like Dr Kaunda did and condemn political violence especially that Zambia would be voting on August 12, this year.

He pointed out that Dr Kaunda engineered the ‘One Zambia One Nation’ slogan and sung the ‘Tiyende Pamozi’ song in order to unify all Zambians and remind them that they were one people.

Chief Mumena said politicians and every leader must emulate the late Dr Kaunda by maintaining and championing peace. – ZANIS
