Fearless Buffaloes not under pressure

By MICHAEL MIYOBA

GREEN Buffaloes women’s team coach Beauty Mwamba says the Zambian champions are not under pressure as they prepare for the 2023 CAF Women’s Champions League/COSAFA qualifier.

The team will face Double Action Ladies of Botswana in the group stages of the CAF Women’s Champions League/COSAFA qualifier as they hunt for a historic back-to-back regional triumph.

The Zambian champions, who defeated South Africa’s Mamelodi Sundowns in last year’s final will also face Lesotho Defence Force of Lesotho and Ntopwa FC of Malawi in Group A.

Mwamba said preparations are progressing well for the competition in which they are ranked among the top seeded teams following their success last year.

We are hoping that she will join us soon, that’s Chimwemwe the Malawian. So, coordination is the only thing remaining because some of the players have been away.

Some of our own were at the World Cup with the national team and they just joined us this week. So, we now have new players and we just need to work on coordination but everything has been going well so far,” Mwamba said.

Asked about the club’s ambitions, Mwamba said “We want to retain the trophy, that’s our goal. We will focus and concentrate on each game as it comes.”

The third edition of the regional qualifier will be held from August 30 – September 8 in Durban, South Africa. The teams will face-off in a round-robin format with the top two sides in each pool advancing to the semifinals.  The winner of Group A will meet the runner-up in Group B which has hosts Mamelodi Sundowns, Olympic De Moroni of Comoros, Mozambique’s Costa Do Sol and Young Buffaloes of Eswatini.

Only the club that wins this year’s qualifier will advance to the continental competition, which is scheduled to be held from November 5-19.
