Constitution amendments

Editor,

Instead of wasting time and resources amending the new Constitution, it would be prudent to simply revert to the Constitution which we abandoned on the 05th of January, 2016. This is because it will be very difficult to reach any consensus given the prevailing political hostility being exhibited. To avoid any confusion, there should be a well-defined transition arrangement leading to the 2021 general elections. It will be a total disaster to hold another election under the current new Constitution but we should still remove the deputy ministers and leave the cabinet as it is. Everything else, we can refer back to 1996 or better still, the 1964 Constitution inherited from Britain.

Kamanga versus MCA

Editor,

Allow me to comment on the water situation in some areas where MCA is currently putting water pipes with a view to improve water supply to the people. In the Daily Nation, I read about Mr. Andrew the FAZ president and MCA in court. I will not talk about the case but I want people to know that for 5years, we have been paying for water and yet we don’t receive it especially in the months of July to December. In the meantime, Lusaka Water and Sewerage Company (LWSC) does not entertain the idea of a refund. Can the Ministry of Lands and Mr. Kamanga sort out this issue before it turns political.

Directed to Mr Habeenzu Mulunda

Editor,

Editor,

I would like to ask Mr. Hebeenzu Mulunda, the public relations manager of Lusaka City Council what happens in the case of waste management firms that appear to be more proactive in collecting funds than picking garbage like what is happening in Kuomboka, Chawama?

The prophets and men of god

Editor,

There are a lot of these so called prophets and men of God who claim to have healing powers but my humble question is, why is the number of disabled people on the streets not reducing?

Police out of control

Editor,

Editor,

It seems that police are out of control nowadays. This thing called shishita where they are busy beating up innocent people walking home from work at night is not good. Please, Ministry of Home Affairs, do something about this brutality.

Scrap off traffic police section

Editor,

I would like to agree with Ndola Chamber of Commerce Secretary on the scrapping of the traffic section of police. This section is just a waste of manpower and has turned the police service into a laughing stock as these poor fellows continue to be street beggars. Please, transfer their functions to RTSA to spare them from public shame. Progressive Zambians will support the move.

Kalabo police must be commended

Editor,

Kalabo Police must be commended for the expeditious manner in which they handled the armed cattle hustlers around that district. Zambians would have confidence in our police service if all stations worked with this level of efficiency.

Directed to all media institutes

Editor,

We need more information on this matter. Some MPs, especially from the other side of the House raised issues about the President’s trips abroad. The general citizens may also have the same questions for as long as we are not given the full feedback on these trips. I know for a fact that the Presidential entourage includes the press. There should be a system where, upon a President’s arrival from a trip, a public broadcast of the trip is aired (wherever possible, uncensored). That way, people will see the benefits of the trip and this will eliminate speculations and guess work. Those that were there will recall that this was the trend during KK’s time. Moreover, you know the type of opposition we have here. In your paper, you reported that ‘Zambia exports 100 000 Mt of maize to Malawi’ on 9th December, 2016 but no price was stated. As for the TV stations, they are paid to go there, mount their cameras and microphones for people back home to see, hear and learn. Please, announce the times that broadcasting of such programs would be done.
