STAKEHOLDERS in Mwinilunga have resolved to enhance measures aimed at curbing child abuse.
The decision was made during a meeting organised by the Nongovernmental Organisation Coordinating Council (NGOCC).
Mwinilunga district child forum chairperson, Lomite Mtonga, stated that combating child abuse required concerted efforts from all stakeholders.
Mr Mtonga, who is also resident magistrate, said measures to end all forms of child abuse could only be attained if all stakeholders were fully-involved.
He said the district is vast hence the need for all stakeholders to engage in community sensitisation on the negative effects of child abuse. At the same event, Zambia Police Victim Support Unit Mwinilunga police station in charge Godfrida Mboinga said his unit was overwhelmed with cases of child abuse. “And this calls for support from all stakeholders such as parents and guardians including neighbors in our communities,” she said.
Meanwhile, Mwinilunga district health director Dr Brian Mwachisowa proposed for the establishment of a one stop centre to deal with cases of child abuse.
Dr Mwachisowa said a multi sectoral approach is key in attaining positive results in the fight against child abuse.
