‘SPEED UP GRAFT PROBE HIGHLIGHTED IN AG’S REPORT’

By PETER SICHALI

ANTI-Corruption Commission (ACC) and Drug Enforcement Commission (DEC) should expedite investigations into suspected corruption and other financial related crimes cited in the Auditor General’s report, Zambia Jubilee Coalition (ZJC) Secretary-General Kwaela Mwanza has said.

Mr Mwanza said the law enforcement agencies should speed up the investigations and ensure that those cited were prosecuted.

He said the growing trend of corruption cases as indicated in the report of the Financial Intelligence Centre (FIC) could only be addressed with law enforcement agencies swiftly acting on them.

“Suspicious transactions that have been recorded in the FIC 2020 trends report should not be ignored therefore it is expected that law enforcement agencies step in and ensure that they investigate these transactions and prosecute those liable,” Mr Mwanza said.

He said the ACC and the DEC should be proactive and ensure that all suspected cases of corruption, money laundering and fraud among others were investigated and culprits prosecuted.

FIC recently released its 2020 trends report which highlighted suspicious transactions running into billions of Kwacha.
