Maureen to pay K90,000  in consent verdict

FORMER first lady Maureen Mwanawasa is to pay almost K90,000 in judgment fees following a consent order in a legal suit commenced by Betternow Finance Company.

This is contained in a consent judgment by High Court Judge Winnie Mwenda in which Ms Mwanawasa has agreed to pay K87,848.24 over a period of two months to Betternow Finance, being the judgment sum in a case handled by the former first lady.

Betternow Finance commenced court proceedings against Dr Mwanawasa in her capacity as legal practitioner following a court judgment in which the lawyer was entitled to a 10 percent pay.

“By consent of both parties judgment is hereby entered in favour of the applicant for the sum of K87,484.24 being balance on the judgment sum.

“It is also hereby agreed and ordered that the respondent shall pay the applicant the said sum within an agreed period of two months from the 30th day of April, 2017,” the judge said.

It was also agreed that Dr Mwanawasa was to pay K18,786.82 being 10 percent collection fee in the case.
