LIVINGSTONE MAYOR PRODS RESIDENT TO GET COVID19 VACCINE

By ANDREW MUKOMA

Livingstone Mayor Constance Muleabai has advised residents to get vaccinated saying Livingstone has a high risk of covid-19 infection due to tourist traffic.

Ms Muleabai said that it was necessary for residents to get vaccinated and remain healthy.

She said this during the relaunch of the Covid-19 vaccination programme in the district on Tuesday which was being done under the theme “Roll up your sleeves, get vaccinated.”

Ms Muleabai revealed that Livingstone is currently at 11.6 percent vaccination while setting 70  percent vaccination coverage as the target for the City.

She stressed the need to get vaccinated ahead of the anticipated 4th wave of the novel coronavirus which health experts have predicted to be more deadly than the preceding waves.

She has appealed to the eligible population to go ahead and get vaccinated against the coronavirus and assured them that the vaccine is safe.

And Livingstone district health director Faceroy Nkole said the district had administered 100% of the Johnson and Johnson vaccine last week and more doses have since been acquired to be rolled out to the public.

He revealed that Livingstone is the highest in the Southern Province in relation to vaccination coverage.

Dr. Nkole highlighted that 95,000 of the Livingstone population needs to be vaccinated to reach 100 percent vaccination coverage in the district.
