A NEAR-PUNCH UP over nshima with beef stew almost erupted between Siavonga District Commissioner Lovemore Kanyama and District Council Chairman James Simataa at another Lwiindi ceremony of the Tonga speaking of Chief Sinadambwe of Siavonga District, where govt was represented  was sparked by the latter.

As the Council Chairman James Simaata was about to pick his food, DC Kanyama swung into action and ordered the people who were serving food to halt dishing out because according to him other more important dignitaries had not yet picked their share. This left people surprised and annoyed Mr Simaata who confronted the DC to inquire why he was behaving in that manner.  Later, a war of words and finger-pointing ensued between the two before they were separated by Journalists who were covering the event.

“DC, what you are trying to do is not good and if you continue doing this I will beat so that you can have manners, I have come here to cerebrate so don’t disturb my mood,” warned Mr Simataa.

After calming down, the two seemingly annoyed senior persons turned to Minister Lawrance Sichalwe who was guest of honor to explain what had happened.  District commissioner Kanyama was later heard pleading with a security officer to save him from an imminent clobbering from the District chairman who by the time had almost boycotted eating.

The opposition UPND run District Council and the PF inclined Siavonga DC are entangled in deep political competition over the control of CDF and other resources.

In another development, a police vehicle carrying officers to the Kalendele Lwiindi Traditional ceremony overturned in Syamwinga area in Siavonga District, injuring several people.

The officers from Siavonga Police Station were on their way to Dambwe shrines to attend the Lwiindi of the Bakuli Tonga-speaking people of chief Sinadambwe.  Witnesses found at the accident scene said the vehicle over turned due to a rear tyre burst.
