“I shall not entertain lawlessness from police officers within my jurisdiction and if they are found abrogating the law, they will be dealt with accordingly,’’ Copperbelt Police Commissioner Charity Katanga has warned.

Speaking to the Daily Nation in an interview yesterday, Ms. Katanga said the police command in the province will not tolerate police officers committing crimes.

Said Ms Katanga: ‘‘We have two police officers in police custody at Ndola Central police – named Constables Sakala and Chola respectively.

‘‘They have been formally arrested and charged with an offence of assault occasioning bodily harm (AOBH) and they will appear in court, if not on Friday (today) then next week.

‘‘Three persons, who include two civilians and one police officer, are complainants in the matter.

‘‘I want to warn police officers not to break the law; if they are found wanting they will face the consequences.”

According to the medical report obtained, the document was issued to the complainants by the Zambia Police Ndola hospital police post by Constable Miti on 15th of May 2017, and signed by Ndola Teaching Hospital medical officer Chidikita on 16th May,2017.

The document said the policeman suffered swellings and bruises, chest pain, shaking teeth, bruised lips and headache after being allegedly assaulted by fellow police officers. A gun was allegedly used to inflict the injuries on the complainant.

According to the two civilians, Mr Muwowo Mwale and Mr Steven Zulu, the two police officers allegedly assaulted them outside a named nightclub in Ndola.

They alleged that the officers were working in collaboration with another person who has not been arrested

The two victims wondered why police officers were allegedly attacking citizens instead of protecting them.
