TRADITIONAL leaders should rise up and speak against the group calling itself the ‘Mau Mau’ which is propagating tribal wars says, Malaila traditional ceremony chairperson Musonda Mushota.

Mr. Mushota said traditional leaders particularly those in-charge of the chiefdom where the ‘Mau Mau’ were coming from would be failing in their duties if they did not speak against their barbaric acts.

He said that the upholding of the country’s peace as well as the One Zambia, One Nation slogan was everyone’s responsibility and that it could not be left to government officials alone. In an interview yesterday, Mr. Mushota said Zambia was a democratic nation which was governed by the rule of law and that all those propagating anarchy would soon come in conflict with the law.

“As traditional leaders, we will be falling in our duties if we do not rise up and speak against the barbaric acts of a group calling itself the ‘Mau Mau’ because we are the ones in-charge of our chiefdoms,” he said.

He said that proper channels should be followed to express one’s displeasure on any matter and warned that the long arm of the law would soon catch up with the ‘Mau Mau’.

The traditional leader said politicians and the Church should unite and encourage unity for the country’s peace and not to allow distractors of development and harmony.

Meanwhile, Youth Aid chairperson Kachenga Chungu said the action by the ‘Mau Mau’ was an indication that more needed to be done to foster unity in the country.

Mr. Chungu said the act was unlawful and aimed at propagating violence which was a recipe for anarchy.
