WATER challenges will soon be a thing of the past in Luanshya as residents will all have access to clean drinking water once the US $104 million Danish International Development Agency (DANIDA)-funded Kafubu water project is completed by the end of the year, Luanshya mayor Nathan Chanda has said.

Commenting on the progress after visiting the project to find out how far the contractor had gone, Mr. Chanda expressed satisfaction with the works done so far but appealed to the contractor to step up pace to ensure that by the end of the year, water challenges being faced in areas such as New township were addressed.

He said clean drinking was a necessity for all and that Government was in a hurry to ensure that people had access to clean drinking piped water.

He said a pressure test was done this week and that it was successful and that the people of Luanshya were eagerly waiting for the completion of the project to easy water challenges faced in some parts of the town.

“I took time to go on site and check on the progress of works by the contractor in the Kafubu/DANIDA water project in Luanshya which is worthy USD $104 million. Am happy to report that, as at yesterday (Wednesday), a pressure test was done on the main line.

“A pressure test is a way of checking for leaks in the water piping system without actually having any water in the pipes. This consists of connecting an air compressor to the water piping. We urged the contractor to speed up the work because the people of Luanshya are urgently in need of good quality water because water is life,” Mr. Chanda said.
