Mandevu zone leaders team up against garbage

ELECTED zone leaders representing residents of Lusaka’s Mandevu Constituency in Ngwerere ward 19 will formulate a plan on how to effectively tackle garbage to be collected by solid waste Community Based Enterprises (CBEs).

Patriotic Front (PF) area councillor Adrian Banda, said this follows a sensitisation meeting with residents of Garden compound regarding garbage collection.  

Mr Banda said in order to have an effective waste management system in place his office and residents would work with the churches, schools and business houses in the delivery of the service. The civic leader said the newly elected zone leaders have been tasked with the responsibility to formulate a plan on how and when solid waste would be collected by CBEs.

Mr Banda told the Daily Nation that the meeting was successful adding that the election of zone leaders was a sign of entrusting residents with the responsibility of taking charge of their concerns. 

“It was at the same sensitization meeting where elections were conducted to usher in zone leaders representing residents from the ward who will formulate a plan on how and when garbage shall be collected by the CBE’s using our ward tractor,” he said. He said residents would continue paying a subsidised monthly fee of K40 towards the exercise.

Mr Banda warned that the indiscriminate dumping of garbage and littering would no longer be tolerated.

He expressed gratitude to all residents for their determination to fight against the deadly disease through preventive measures such as keeping their surroundings clean.

Mr Banda said the distribution of chlorine to members of the community would continue as it was an ongoing exercise.
