TWO brothers of Nabvutika compound have being nabbed by police in Chipata for stealing an ambulance valued at K670, 000 property of government.

Ms. Zulu identified the two suspects as Nathan Phiri, 29, and Jackson Phiri, 24.

“On the material day, the driver, Gideon Sakala, 32, was transporting a patient from Mwasemphangwe area, to Chipata Gentral Hospital, but upon arrival he rushed the patient into the elevator, to be taken to the ward and left the motor vehicle’s engine running.

She said the driver discovered that the ambulance was missing when he went outside, to check on the vehicle.

She added that the driver was later informed by some people that the ambulance was driven out of the hospital premises heading into town.

The deputy police commissioner said the ambulance was spotted along the Great East Road before Referendum area, where the two suspects were apprehended.

“Nathan Phiri who stole the vehicle revealed that after stealing the vehicle, he went to pick up his young brother Jackson Phiri in Nabvutika compound and from there proceeded going to Lusaka,” she said.

She further said that the ambulance had its beacon light on and that it was difficult to stop it.

She said nobody can stop an ambulance because people think it is carrying a critically ill patient.
