Telesphore irked by Compromised churches

By NAMO PHIRI

THERE is need for the Church to amplify their voice in condemning the injustices taking place, former Archbishop of Lusaka Telesphore Mpundu

has said.

Commenting on the current happenings where people are being arrested and kept in prison for a long time without trial while others are being arrested without being charged for days, the former archbishop said the voice of the church has not been loud enough in condemning such happenings.

He said the church needed to rise and speak out to ensure that people’s rights are not infringed upon.

Archbishop Mpundu said the church should do everything to protect and safeguard the rights of the people against being stepped on.

The former Archbishop said the church needed to speak up and encourage the people to stand up for what is right.

He said it is the duty of the church to help the people to stand and fight for what is right as people should be encouraged to stand up and speak for what is right.

Archbishop Mpundu said it is the duty of the church to lead for others to follow.

He expressed disappointment with the current inability for the church to come out and speak about certain matters as they are the mother body with a duty to protect and offer counsel to government and the people at large.

The UPND government said they would ensure freedom of expression for every citizen, the former archbishop said, so there is need to see if that is the case by speaking out.

And the archbishop said people should strive to protect one another from those who want to tread on the rights of the people.

He said Zambians should unite and ensure the protection of the country’s democracy from being lost.
