Promote Zambian values, students told

ZAMBIAN students studying abroad have been urged to be good ambassadors of the country through exemplary behaviour, chargé d’affaires at the Zambian embassy in Turkey Bwalya Nondo has advised.

Mr Nondo also urged the students to help market Zambia as an ideal tourism and investment destination whenever they had an opportunity to do so in their interaction with the Turkish people.

He said the mission was happy that there had been no record of embarrassing incidents to the country among Zambian students in Turkey.

Currently, there were over 100 Zambian students studying in various universities across Turkey.

Mr Nonde was speaking when a delegation of the newly-elected Zambia Students Union in Turkey (ZSUT) executive committee paid a courtesy call on him at the chancery in Ankara.

He advised the students not to tarnish the image of the country through bad behavior and to avoid wrong company which could push them into illicit activities.

He advised the students to return home and contribute to national development upon completion of their studies.

“The students should realize that the courses related to science and technology they are studying are vital for national development and that Government is promoting this area of study in its development agenda.

‘‘You are here to gather the building blocks for national development, which is knowledge,” he said.

Mr Nonde said nations that have recorded massive development had had applied science and technology to the fullest.

The Zambia Students Union in Turkey (ZSUT) executive committee included president Ben Kapansa, vice president Richard Mukang’ombe and secretary general Benson Musukwa.

Others were vice information and communication manager Boniface Mwanza, project manager Paul Sinyangwe and head of disciplinary committee, Thomas Sanyati.
