A local actor Cliff Chalwe popularly known as Iman is hopeful 2017 will bring out the best in local film productions if there will be more corporate support.

Speaking in an interview to review the year 2016 in film and theater, Chalwe said we as a country has moved to a level of telling our own stories through film but there was need for more corporate involvement to grow the industry.

“We had a good year 2016 in terms of film productions,” he says.

“We saw a good number of local productions telling stories typical of Zambia. We saw films on gender-based violence, films on health issues and films on various social concerns typical to Zambia and Africa. This means growth but we are lacking full corporate support and sponsors. We need more companies to come on board and boost this important industry.”

Chalwe adds that Nigeria’s growth in film industry is as a result of corporate involvement and embracing of local art. Meanwhile, TV and Radio personality Webster Chinyimba also known as W-Star who features in Behind Faces, a local drama on Zambezi Magic says it is important to acknowledge the contribution Zambezi Magic has brought to the local film industry. He says 2017 will even be a good year because film producers now have a platform to showcase their talent.
